Antioxidants
In Beer
When it comes
to antioxidants, the majority of us will quickly think of the
many ranges of dietary and health supplements that are easily
available over the counter today. We may even be aware that
there are many types of vegetables and fruits that are rich in
antioxidants. Many are even aware that red wine is the richest
among them all.
However, we
generally will not associate beer with antioxidants. In fact,
most of us would not even know of the fact that beer contains
just the right amount and mix of antioxidants that our body
needs.
It is not
necessarily the food with the highest amount of antioxidant
that will be the most beneficial to us, especially when these
antioxidants are not readily absorbed by our bodies.
Conversely, food with lower levels of antioxidants but with a
more suitable mix of these molecules that are easily absorbed
by our bodies will be more beneficial to our health.
Let’s look at
it in another way. Consider an NBA basketball team. The best
team need not always be the one with the best individual
players. In fact, a team of lesser skilled players but with
greater teamwork usually yields better performance.
That’s how it
is with beer. It contains ferulic acid, an antioxidant which is
quickly absorbed by our bodies than any other antioxidants.
Studies have also shown that alcohol aids in the absorption of
antioxidants into our bodies.
Beer also
contains Vitamin B6 which our body needs.
